Drop spreaders are best for lawns that contain lots of landscaping elements, such as flowers beds and narrow green strips, that need you to make tight turns. Handheld spreaders We haven’t included any handheld spreaders in our review but they’re useful to know about. These spreaders are compact for small gardening needs and are very affordable. While they do tend to throw seeds/fertiliser granules in all directions, they’re great for filling in damaged small gaps in your lawn or getting into tight areas where your larger spreader can’t reach. The larger handheld spreaders are powered by battery rather than you having to hand crank them. A2: Start the spinner turning before moving off then open the hopper as you move off up the lawn, this way the granules drop on to the spinning disc and will be dispensed out over the lawn in a 2 metre arc. If the hopper is opened first the granules will fall down in a heap resulting in over application. At the end of each run close the hopper before stopping the spinner. If you have a small lawn e.g. below 50m2, then many of our products can simply be applied fro the bag. However, if you have a large lawn e.g. above 50m2, then you’re best bet would be a spreader.
