About this deal

I don't give many five-star reviews, but Vigilante gets one because it's proof that there was good music being made even in the Thatcherite taste desert that was Britain in 1986. I decided to replace my old cd as some tracks had always seemed to jump so I was quite disappointed to find the new does the same so perhaps it is a mastering fault when the it was transferred from vinyl. There's truly not a bad track here, and different ones emerge as favourites each time I play it - currently it's Midnight, for its risky but perfectly judged saxophone climax, and Holy Rider, for that boomy, epic soundscape that prefigures what the Killers created in Sam's Town. Gracenote bizarrely categorizes this as 'Metal' (whereas even AC/DC and Led Zeppelin are tagged 'Rock') but who cares?

Irrespective of the source, all of our collectables meet our strict grading and are 100% guaranteed. Eventually got round to properly replacing my very battered 2nd hand CD of this album with a shiny new one. The approach adopted here was a lot more commercial and the end result is a more streamlined Magnum sound. The weakest tracks are the first three and the last, but the ones in the middle are all good ones; Midnight (You Won't Be Sleeping), Red On The Highway, Holy Rider, and When The World Comes Down are actually not bad at all!The gloss serves to the band's advantage too, in that it reins in the beardy, prog-rock tendencies of some of their earlier work and draws attention to the concentrated quality in the songwriting, and especially to Bob Catley's superbly paced singing. Three singles were released to promote the album, "Lonely Night", "Midnight (You Won't Be Sleeping)" and "When the World Comes Down". The feel of the album is entirely different from On A Storyteller's Night; lighter, streamlined, as I said, but not without substance. Queen is one of my all-time favourite bands, and I'm sure that fans of 80's Queen will like this music. Vigilante was the first Magnum album I bought (still on vinyl back in 1991 as I didn't have a CD player then) and I still believe it is their best one.

Auf diesem Album geht es etwas rockiger zu, aber 2 melodiöse Nummern setzen sich auf Anhieb im Ohr fest. Condition - This item is in Excellent condition or better (unless it says otherwise in the above description). To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Capitalising on the success of On a Storyteller's Night, Magnum changed to a more commercial direction with Vigilante.
