About this deal

On the digital side, this machine runs the same MPC 2 software as the previous generation Live, MPC One and MPC X, which has just been updated to version 2. It feels like that workflow of aligning stems, naming tracks and re-doing some of the work you already did on the MPC to recreate the reverbs again in the daw is just tedious and a fun killer. They are missing such obvious features like making the physical Erase button actually erase selected notes in the piano roll, and more often than not, a swipe to select notes won’t catch all notes near the edge of the screen and/or cause it to scroll insanely fast. While written primarily for standalone MPCs, all tutorials in the MPC Bible work equally well in controller mode and hence can be used with an MPC Touch (running MPC Software 2.

Since we last reviewed the MPC line, Ableton Live compatibility has been added, not only allowing MPC creations to be exported as Live projects, but also providing mapping to use the hardware as a wireless Live controller. All of this is doable, but it makes you spend more time on the MPC before exporting to make sure thighs are just right when you’re really ready for the mixing phase already. inch SATA drive bay for connecting SSD or HDD drives and USB thumb input for immediate access to your own sample libraries. Put simply, it’s a professional production workstation with the expressivity and intuitiveness of an instrument. Mediocre battery life - if I understand correctly, you should be happy if you get about an hour of use unplugged. Channeling the spirit of its famous predecessor into a modern unit made for portable playability, the Akai MPC Live Standalone Sampler/Sequencer is a versatile option for home production and performance alike.

This feature alone pushed the MPC software DAW out of the realm of beat production into the big leagues with other loop-based DAWs. This version of the MPC builds on years of music production knowledge, with the first MPC being revealed in the late 1980s. I'm completely new to the world of MPC but the MPC Bible is probably one of the best investments I've made in my many years of music production.

A HUGE selection of effects that cover all your needs and be applied at any level of your sounds chain. I continue to dream of a world where there is a completely seamless transition from sketching on a groovebox, where you can start a new embryo of a song with the perfect reverb tail, and then gradually transition to mixing and doing the final arrangement on the computer screen. Files can be transferred to the on-board memory or accessed via the built-in SD card slot and/or USB hub. There are some restrictions when using the software in standalone mode, compared with the desktop version, primarily a limit of eight audio tracks and no access to third-party plugins. The MPC range has been pivotal in the world of music production, and the Live II looks set to continue this trailblazing legacy.
