About this deal

The time she looses her cool is with her academic mum which she is the opposite like the rest of the family it seems. The reader gains knowledge of this family's background, including the harm and suffering that have been inflicted upon them.

This heart-warming story about Grama Grace and her descendants is eventful and fraught with misunderstanding. Grace knows that by tracing and meeting Alys after so many years she risks her granddaughter’s fury. The novel is set in Jones’s beloved Wales, and scattered with Welsh terms of endearment, which adds to the sensation of reading it wrapped in a comfort blanket. Ruth Jones’ third novel is another warm, heartfelt story, filled with strong and joyful female characters that captures the challenges and joys of relationships and family.I was completely captivated by this character-driven story of mother/daughter relationships and really cared about the characters; I was genuinely sad to finish it and leave them all behind. Love Untold is the first book I’ve read by Ruth Jones, but after loving it I’ve added her others to my (ever-growing) list.

The end of this story is incredibly moving and brought me to tears (and I have never cried over a book before). Her debut novel Never Greener was chosen as WHSmith Fiction Book of the Year 2018, was nominated for Debut of the Year at the British Book Awards, was a Zoe Ball Book Club pick, and was a Sunday Times bestseller for fifteen weeks, three weeks at number one. Were their circumstances the reasons for their mistakes or is it just their different personalities? Ruth Jones is best known for her outstanding and award-winning television writing, most notably BBC One’s Gavin and Stacey, which she co-wrote with James Corden and in which she played the incorrigible Nessa Jenkins.Love, mess, secrets; this story of four generations of women is shot through with Ruth Jones’s warmth and wisdom. But Grace is close to the end of her life, and she knows she has no choice but to try to heal her family. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. She’s determined that Grace’s big day will be celebrated, her own daughter, Becca is slightly mortified by her mother’s quest to party, much preferring to spend quality time with her great grandmother. Ruth Jones, you smashed this book, this was my first book I’ve read by Ruth, I’ll be going back to read the rest.

Her daughter, Alys reluctantly moves in with her but escapes to London as soon as she turned eighteen. She has no idea quite what will happen next and whatever it is, it is sure to cause trouble in the family. She exudes warmth and wisdom, and reading this book makes you feel someone’s draped a warm overcoat across your shoulders. The characters in this one generally are likeable accept Alys making me warm to the writing of her even more.
