About this deal

I’m so excited to share today’s post with you. The Harry Potter books were a big part of my teen years. I remember reading the series and watching the movies, completely in love with the characters. My daughter recently started reading the series and asked for a Harry Potter birthday party. As you can imagine, I can’t wait to start planning it. We’ve decided one of the party favors will be a Golden Snitch bath bomb! Keep reading for 6 DIY bath bomb ideas and the recipe at the bottom of the post. Officially called the Sorting Hat Bath Bomb, these Harry Potter bath bombs actually harness the power of the wizarding world to determine which Hogwarts house you'd belong in, if your letter ever came (seriously, Hogwarts—we're still waiting). Spray each egg with rubbing alcohol and sprinkled extra glitter on them. Or, alternatively, you can melt a little coconut oil and brush it over the surface of the golden egg bath bomb and then sprinkle with extra glitter. For those who aren’t so sure where they belong, you could always get all four palettes, boxed up in this special ‘vault’. Harry Potter house nail polish strips Once the ingredients are mixed, they should form a ball in your hand and feel like wet sand. Once you have this texture, fill each egg mold to the top. Make sure to press down firmly.

Handling the bath bomb carefully, spray lightly with rubbing alcohol. Apply the gold mica powder either with your fingers, a small paint brush or add the mica powder to a bowl and ever so gently roll the bomb in the powder. Suddenly we knew EXACTLY what our new Harry Potter bath bomb recipe should be, a Golden Egg. Perfect! Hufflepuff House is filled with witches and wizards who embrace the qualities of hardwork, patience, loyalty and fair play. Most of all, throughout all the Harry Potter stories, I feel they embody kindness. To the very core of their being, Hufflepuffs are kind and fill the world around them with kindness. What a wonderful trait!

Pour the liquid ingredients into the large bowl with the dry ingredients. Using your hands mix everything together. This may take a few minutes of really working the mixture to evenly disperse all the oils throughout the dry ingredients. Break up any lumps. The mix is ready when it is the texture of wet sand and holds a shape when you squish it in your hands. Colouring the bath bomb mix

A few weeks ago we created a whole Harry Potter school plan full of cool educational ideas. Turns out that wasn’t enough for my kids, we needed more magical Hogwarts inspired lessons! So this week we dabbled in a bit of potions (chemistry) and created bath bombs in cauldrons. These are not just any bath bombs though, these are house reveal bath bombs! It was a fun twist that the kids loved in this project. If you live somewhere with high humidity or it is a rainy day, the bath bombs will take moisture from the air and could start reacting. This could result in frizzing or puffing up. Reduce the amount of liquid used in the making of the bath bombs and, if at all possible, chose a drier day to make them. Once made, ensure you store your bath bombs in an airtight container or wrap in plastic. CRUMBLY BATH BOMBS Now the best part, adding the feathers so your Golden Snitch can take flight! Trim the hard part of the feather stem to about 1/8 inch. Then very gently slip into the side of the bath bomb. Repeat on the other side. But see here’s the thing, Harry Potter is a story about hate and overcoming hate. In the end, what is the greatest tool to use against hate? Love and kindness. In a small bowl add coconut oil, approximately 10 drops of the essential oils of your choice, and polysorbate 80. Blend well. Then add to the large bowl.

That’s a world I would love to live in. One filled with Hufflepuffs. People that are safe. That can be trusted and are loyal. That work hard. For a little extra potions lesson, you can explore the role of two more ingredients – Polysorbate 80 and SLSA. When you are ready to remove the eggs from the mold, put a plate on the bottom and gently flip it over. Tap on the eggs and twist the mold gently until they pop out. When the Harry Potter bath bomb is popped into the tub, it will fizz until a colour is revealed, giving you your Hogwarts House (sorry Hufflepuffs, it might look like you've done a wee in the bath).
