About this deal

The Rift” is an explosive and gripping crime thriller written by the brilliant British fiction author, Rachel Lynch. With well-honed crime writing skills, Lynch writes to show that to save one life, sometimes you have to risk others. I highly recommend this book and the other books in the series (see below). I’m also looking forward to the next instalment of the D I Kelly Porter series Silent Bones. I enjoyed protagonist Major Helen Scott. She is intelligent and tough and very human as you learn about her personal life. Ms. Lynch does a great job of writing Grant Tennyson into the story as a male counterpart to Helen who does not take over as a savior or diminish Helen’s strength and talent. The past and current family interactions between Khalil and Fawaz add a depth to the story and to the international intrigue.

D. I. Kelly Porter is at the trial for Ian Burton. Her ex-boyfriend Johnny is the main witness for his case. When Kelly gets a call that there is a major incident happening on the peaks of the Lake District. During a race on the fells a helicopter has crashed and killed and injured many of the runners taking part. Kelly and Johnny race to the scene of the accident to help anyway they can. I loved this book the stunning locations in the beautiful Lake District (which is not far from me) , the reoccurring characters and the superb writing by Rachel Lynch they all go together to make you feel you are a part of the story. It’s a series that never gets stale and I hope it will continue for may more books. As well as having to solve a case, Kelly also has a young family to look after and this follows familiar tropes of Canelo Crime releases from Lynch's contemporaries (MJ Lee and Marion Todd) who also have domestic routines to account for. This stable of writers make clear that law enforcement have problems at home to deal with as well as the crimes to solve - and this balance or openness of relationships certainly makes the characters more relatable and sympathetic. There is much more to this book than a helicopter crash and I was surprised to see where Kelly’s investigation led. Sudden Death has a multifaceted plot and shows us how criminals of all forms can be hiding in plain sight.

Then two girls who are wanted as witnesses in the investigation go missing. A Private Investigator working for Lord Reilly’s family goes rogue. The second thing I learned is that too much detail spoils the plot. Seriously. It was a good story, but there were just so many details about absolutely everything that I struggled to stay invested. I don't need to know step by step every thought a character has or every movement that they make. This is especially true when I had things figured out before the detectives. There were times when I found myself wanting to throw my Kindle (instead, I settled for closing it and setting it aside time and time again) because I found myself so frustrated with how things were going. Bold Lies | Bitter Edge | Dead End | Deep Fear | Dark Game | Blood Rites | Little Doubt | Lost Cause This is the eleventh in Rachel Lynchs excellent series and a brilliant addition. A first-class read .’ ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Reader review The opening chapters of Sudden Death grabbed my attention straight away with a scene reminiscent of a Hollywood disaster movie. The sheer devastation was easy to visualise and definitely brought home the extremely difficult tasks faced by the emergency services in this part of the United Kingdom. Kudos to Rachel Lynch for starting the book in such a gripping fashion that really set the tone for what was to come.

On a misty morning in the Lake District, two men depart by helicopter from a private estate. Flying over Scafell Pike the pilot loses control, and they crash into the mountain top. Runners and bystanders are caught in the devastation. This is the scene that greets DI Kelly Porter. She attempts to coordinate the rescue efforts, though it’s clear many won’t make it, including occupants of the helicopter. Three are dead, and the fourth is badly injured. When it emerges that the survivor is none other than the Right Honourable Lord Donald Reilly, and the person who chartered the flight was notorious billionaire Bartholomew Kennedy-Craig, the media frenzy is intense. When it is learned that the helicopter had been tampered with, Kelly and her team can’t afford to make a single mistake.

And with intriguing characters and a beautiful setting. This is a series I want to read more off, and it's a story I would happily recommend to others. When another body is discovered at a local Caravan Park murdered in a similar way of that the skeleton and another old school friend of Kelly’s. She takes it personal but keeps being professional in her investigation. She needs to find out the connection between the two murders and why wait for the killer to strike again. She knows that she has a serial killer of her hands. This is just the start of a case that goes from bad to worse for Kelly as this was no accident and more and more questions begin to form and Kelly somehow has to get to the bottom of it all. This is the eleventh in Rachel Lynch's excellent series and a brilliant addition. The case this time gives more insight into Kelly's past and how her classmates saw her. I found this a fascinating part of the storyline, which made me like Kelly even more. The research undertaken by the author shone brightly throughout and added another level to this first-class read, which will leave everyone desperate for book twelve.

D I Kelly Porter now in court where the trial of Ian Burton from the storyline of the previous book is taking place. This was the case that caused Kelly and Jonny to break up. As the jury go out for deliberations both Kelly and Jonny receive calls – it’s the helicopter crash – they will both be needed for their advanced first aid skills. They rush off together minds focused on what they will encounter up the mountain. This another very good addition to this series and had me hooked from the very start. For me the characters are the strongest part of this series, so well described and developed that I feel like I know them and would love to watch a television series based on the books.

I am a big fan of Rachel Lynch’s DI Kelly Porter series. So, I was intrigued when I received a copy of The Rift and pleasantly surprised too. The Rift is a completely different style to the authors usual writing style. But, different in a good way. Since Kelly just moved to Lake District, she has been living with her mom, and things at home have not been easy. First, Kelly doesn’t get along with her sister Nikki who has always been their mom’s favorite. She can also sense that her mom is keeping something from her. While Kelly is not perfect, it is easy to love her. What is not to love about a protagonist who is dedicated to her work and is willing to go to extra lengths to ensure that justice is done? The whole story is just as intriguing, and it is exciting how the author sets the stage for the final showdown. The novel combines elements of police procedural, murder mystery, and psychological suspense. As the investigation unfolds, secrets and long-buried truths come to light, creating a tense and atmospheric atmosphere throughout the narrative. The Lake District setting adds to the eerie and haunting ambience, creating a sense of isolation and foreboding. I thoroughly enjoy Rachel Lynch’s DI Kelly Porter series so I was delighted to discover she was releasing this standalone thriller, The Rift. It was great to see what Rachel Lynch can do in addition to that series and she really hits the bullseye! This series has yet to have a book that I did not like . I could not believe the thrills from this book… one after the other!’ ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Reader review I came into this novel having not read any of the prior ones because the premise caught my attention. Kelly’s ex, Johnny, is also there investigating. They had fallen out over his testimony in a trial that just finished but this case brings them closer together again. What is unclear is what Lord Reilly was doing in the chopper with Kennedy-Craig. He was at a nearby climate conference but did not use the hotel room that was booked for him.
