Songs about wanting a dog and being bad at basketball may mislead feeble ears into thinking this is simply a childish throwaway record released by a band way past their prime that simply needs to finish their tetralogy, but that would be a foolish conclusion. This album contains red herrings to confuse those newer to more complex genres such a prog into thinking this isn't worth their time (thus gatekeeping it for us music professionals). In reality, as you can tell by the time signature changes in the 2nd half of Iambic Pentameter and the child's chorus singing about wanting to die during the epic guitar climax of The Deep and Dreamless Sleep, this album is actually really deep and complex and trained ears will understand that. Rivers Cuomo first mentioned that the band's sixteenth album was in the concept phase on October 31, 2020, alluding to Jake Sinclair's involvement.
