Miller, Jeff (2022-09-20). "Weezer Teases 'SZNZ: Winter' Album at Secret Club Show in Los Angeles". Variety . Retrieved 2022-12-22.

On July 9, Cuomo told members of Riverchat that SZNS may not release as he had originally envisioned following a "interesting conversation" with Crush Records founder Jonathan Daniel, later clarifying that he was referring to the format of releasing four albums at the beginning of each season throughout the year, specifically stating he wanted to "avoid the fate" of Green Day's album trilogy ¡Uno! ¡Dos! ¡Tré! and Kanye West's seven-song albums. [9] The next day, Cuomo confirmed that the release format had indeed changed saying it would be "equal to or greater" than the original format. After expressing excitement for the project and it's cover art, he teased that SZNS could come out "all at once" on January 1, 2022. [10] Despite this, Cuomo has since continued to promote the four-album concept, mentioning it to Good Morning America a few weeks later. [11] [12] Elsewhere, "Basketball" is one of WEEZER'S strongest songs from the entire "SZNZ" series. In it, Cuomo tells a story of hiding from a basketball coach under the bleachers of a high school gym. With whimsical storytelling lyrics and the swagger of WEEZER'S 2008 hit, "Pork and Beans", "Basketball" is a fun ditty that drums up all kinds of nostalgia. Prog is alive and well, with Weezer releasing an EP that will go down in history as one of the most essential progressive records ever put to tape. Songs about wanting a dog and being bad at basketball may mislead feeble ears into thinking this is simply a childish throwaway record released by a band way past their prime that simply needs to finish their tetralogy, but that would be a foolish conclusion. This album contains red herrings to confuse those newer to more complex genres such a prog into thinking this isn't worth their time (thus gatekeeping it for us music professionals). In reality, as you can tell by the time signature changes in the 2nd half of Iambic Pentameter and the child's chorus singing about wanting to die during the epic guitar climax of The Deep and Dreamless Sleep, this album is actually really deep and complex and trained ears will understand that. Rivers Cuomo first mentioned that the band's sixteenth album was in the concept phase on October 31, 2020, alluding to Jake Sinclair's involvement. Said Cuomo on the wall on riverscuomo.com, "Turned in the first draft of the NEXT NEXT NEXT album to Jake". [1]

And so considering that, are these the best of times or the worst of times to be in the music business? Cuomo, Rivers. Mister Rivers' Neighborhood 10 July 2021 https://www.weezerpedia.com/wiki/File:SZNS7_10_21.jpg SZNZ: Winter" marks the final EP in the series, arriving on the winter solstice, December 21. With this new season comes what is possibly the strongest EP in the series, featuring a catchy and classic WEEZER sound. No, I don't. I just love building stuff, and every morning I wake up and come down to my studio and build stuff, and then we have to figure out what to do with it. So are you saying you haven’t been able to do that for previous records, since the early days of the band?

It seemed like there were a lot of references to classical compositions and a connection to Vivaldi, so what drew you to that vibe? The lead single, "I Want a Dog", was released on December 9, 2022, [6] with a live performance of the song on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on December 16, 2022. [7] Is the current state of the music industry a factor in why you’re releasing so much music, like four EPs in one year?We definitely went through that phase, like in the beginning of the 2000s. It was real tough. But it seems like we're surrounded by fans who are super excited about new music and they themselves are actually frustrated when they encounter other people who have closed minds [towards] the new stuff. So it feels like we've got a great, great little neighborhood around us.

But I'd say in recent years, I've really found a great balance and am feeling more instinctual than ever – at the same time, I have tons of spreadsheets and computer programs that I've written to help me along. I'm firing on all cylinders, for sure.It seems like you’ve evolved so well with a music industry that is constantly evolving and shifting. On February 24, he shared a 10 second snippet of the song A Little Bit of Love through Discord. On February 27 he shared the same snippet through Tik Tok featuring a video of him dressed as an Elf, as well as a slideshow with pictures of him and his wife. [24]

I'd be glad if people get that sort of reassurance from our story because we all come from broken homes. And I know for me it was super important. I have not experienced nirvana or anything close to it, but I meditate two hours a day. And I’ve been doing that for 20 years now, so it’s hard for me to know, like, what it has given me, because I don’t know what life would be like without it. But my guess is that it really helps me stay calm and roll with the changes. As you said, there’s just been incredible changes in the music industry and many parts of modern life. Just got to stay calm.SZNZ: Winter" closes with "The Deep and Dreamless Sleep", a faster-paced, punk-infused anthem that recalls "Buddy Holly"-era WEEZER. With its warm textures, shifting dynamics and mistletoe references, "The Deep and Dreamless Sleep" makes for a charming ending to "SZNZ: Winter". Grow, Kory (March 18, 2022).
