About this deal

The P-125 is not an exception. Although Yamaha claims that the keyboard of this piano has been tweaked to provide a more natural feel, it’s still the good old GHS mechanism that I’m well familiar with. While the P-125 came a bit later than the P-255 as the successor to the P-115, Yamaha did not really make a whole lot of changes to it in this regard. While both are equipped with the same hammer action and touch sensitivity, the actual keys on the latter is of higher quality, furnishing it with the same feel as more expensive models. The keyboard itself is fairly portable and can be easily moved around by pretty much anyone over 14. Although in my opinion there are more realistic keyboard actions available in this price range (Roland’s PHA-4 Standard, Kawai’s RHC), the GHS still provides a good value for money and has its fans too.

You can record and save your play in MIDI format, and the app will generate sheet music for what you played. Then you can reload the song and play along with it. Note that when you use the app for this, it will overwrite the current onboard MIDI recording.

IAC automatically adjusts the frequency response to achieve a better balance and make both high and low register notes clearly audible even at low volume levels. While other manufacturers are actively designing and introducing new keyboard actions, Yamaha seems to be reluctant to upgrade its popular Graded Hammer Standard (GHS) action, which has been around for quite a while.

There are some default demo songs in there. Actually, while at the music store I selected the jazz piano demo and then played along with it. The sales person was blown away (or at least tried to look impressed, after all, he wanted to sell me the item..LOL). Because the two are outfitted with the Pure CF tone generator, the grand piano instruments on both are no less than stunning. I do have to say that I was a bit more awed by the strings on the P-255, with the individual notes blending incredibly well. Its bass section is also wonderfully made. Piano Functions and Features I think it’s a fantastic choice for anyone looking for a high-quality musical instrument that won’t break the bank. Sure, there are better digital piano’s out there – but you’ll be paying a lot more money for them compared with the P-125; so I think for the money, there is nothing else worth considering. Each note was recorded multiple times at different velocity levels to recreate the richness and dynamic range of the traditional instrument. The P-255 does have an edge over the P-125 in this category, thanks to its higher polyphony count and more powerful speaker system. Usually, that’s enough to make me gush over a digital piano. However, that’s a very tiny edge here, in my opinion. Aside from the sheer similarities in other features and functions, it’s really hard to ignore the disparity in price. If you plan to set the Yamaha P-125 down and play it on a table then you’ll love the new “Table EQ” feature.
