About this deal

Ability Score Increase. Your Strength score increases by 2, and your Charisma score increases by 1. In combat one of the Yuan-Ti purebloods tries to hold the line while the second moves into room 4 to alert its allies. Darrin Drader, Thomas M. Reid, Sean K. Reynolds, Wil Upchurch (June 2006). Mysteries of the Moonsea. Edited by John Thompson, Gary Sarli. ( Wizards of the Coast), pp. 113–120. ISBN 978-0-7869-3915-2.

Abominations considered humans repugnant and barely tolerated yuan-ti pureblood. Like all yuan-ti, abominations found the body odor of humans repulsive. [7] Ecology [ ]Aversion: The yuan-ti creates a compulsion effect targeting one creature within 30 feet. The subject must succeed at a Will save (DC 17) or gain an aversion to snakes for 10 minutes. Affected subjects must stay at least 20 feet from any snake or yuan-ti, alive or dead; if already within 20 feet, they move away. A subject can overcome the compulsion by succeeding at another DC 17 Will save, but still suffers deep anxiety. This causes a -4 reduction to Dexterity until the effect wears off or the subject is no longer within 20 feet of a snake or yuan-ti. This ability is otherwise similar to antipathy as cast by a 16th-level sorcerer. Unless one of the much rarer and more powerful yuan-ti anathemas was present, yuan-ti abominations were the leaders and masterminds of the yuan-ti, as well as the highest-ranking priests in each tribe's temple. [3] [5] Volo’s Guide to Monsters’ treatment of the yuan-ti is heavily lore-focused, with a section, useful to dungeon masters, on how to design a yuan-ti temple-city. From a tactical standpoint, the only additions are five new variants (!) and a brief subsection headed “Unusual Abilities.” Female yuan-ti lay eggs in brood chambers, marking each clutch with its parentage, then abandoning them to the care of broodguards. Yuan-ti hatchlings are hatched from these eggs, which are always curious and eager to explore, and will seek food immediately, even eating each other if sustenance is not at hand. Their initial training is provided by broodguards, which also monitor the hatchery. Young yuan-ti are trained in the use of their powers almost after being born. They will turn into tiny vipers and slither to the nearest cover when they see danger or hear a warning. [22] Ed Greenwood, Eric L. Boyd, Darrin Drader (July 2004). Serpent Kingdoms. ( Wizards of the Coast), p. 10–11. ISBN 0-7869-3277-5.

Serpent's Tongue. You can speak with snakes as if you shared a language. You can communicate simple thoughts and concepts with them, and they can share recent memories with you. Many months ago, a Yuan-Ti abomination named Ssilkashla discovered ancient rituals written on dusty scrolls in a distant Yuan-Ti ruin. The scrolls outlined a path for her to transform into a Yuan-Ti Anathema, an immortal serpentine demigod that would rule over all lesser Yuan-Ti. Ssilkashla established this new temple with a small congregation of Yuan-Ti Purebloods and Malisons to serve as her base of operations while she prepared the ritual. Ssilkashla’s Pureblood agents in the world above have been kidnapping humanoids to serve as the bloody sacrifices Ssilkashla needs to fuel her ascension.

b]Innate Spellcasting (Abomination Form Only).[/b] The yuan-ti's innate spellcasting ability is Charisma (spell save DC 15). The yuan-ti can innately cast the following spells, requiring no material components: Yuan-ti buildings were often circular. In place of staircases, they often had ramps or poles instead, since most of them could slither and many of them could climb. [6] Houses [ ] Ophidians are an unrelated race of serpent-people who are nonetheless commonly associated with the yuan-ti. Ophidians are not very intelligent, and are easily impressed by shows of power by yuan-ti, evil nagas, and dragons, whom they frequently serve as willing slaves. Their most potent weapon is their venom, which can change humans into degenerate ophidians. Most ophidians worship their yuan-ti masters as gods.

Suggestion’s most promising application is to turn a low-Wisdom, non-elven opponent into a thrall of the yuan-ti, since no suggestion that the opponent turn on his or her allies is going to seem reasonable. Also a concentration spell. Innate Spellcasting. You know the Poison Spray cantrip. You can cast Animal Friendship an unlimited number of times with this trait, but you can target only snakes with it. Starting at 3rd level, you can also cast Suggestion with this trait. Once you cast it, you can't do so again until you finish a long rest. Charisma is your spellcasting ability for these spells. Yuan-Ti abominations appear as anthropomorphic serpents, and are taller than other Yuan-Ti. In Yuan-Ti society, they are seen as the higher caste. Unusual Abilities offers four traits that DMs can use to customize an individual yuan-ti or a group of them:The yuan-ti come in several distinct castes or breeds. The three most prevalent, described in the Third Edition Monster Manual, are as follows: Produce Acid: The yuan-ti can exude acid from its body, dealing 1d6 points of damage to anything it touches. The acid becomes inert when it leaves the yuan-ti's body. The original version of Magic Resistance was a controversial racial trait. Magical effects include things like magical traps and many creatures’ special abilities (beholders, etc.), so the Yuan-Ti Pureblood has a widely-applicable defense that can immediately become a balance problem. As a player you want to look for other bonuses to your saves so that you can nearly guarantee success on saving throws, but as a DM you want ways to challenge and threaten players and there are only so many varieties of nonmagical breath weapons and the like. The updated version of the Yuan-Ti is less problematic, as Magic Resistance only applies to spells.
