Learning through Songs and Tunes, this popular course-book is an ideal resource for both pupil and teacher, helping teach the tunes 'you know and want to play'. Smaller pupils may have difficulty holding the flute even using a curved head joint because their fingers are so small. It’s up to you the teacher as to how you handle this. No matter how insistent the pupil or the parent is, sometimes it is better to delay starting smaller pupils: they can do so much damage trying to play an instrument that is too big for them! It moves really slowly through the different notes, giving students time to spend on developing good tone. I really love the fact that this book begins by showing you the different sections of the flute and explains the mechanism and how you go about making and producing a sound. Illustrations are included throughout the book showing correct posture and fingerings. These are all done in a more child friendly way than some of the other beginner books out there.
