About this deal

We compared slices of cucumbers (and many other vegetables) from each of the mandolines we tested. The Tester Take a closer look at our selection of seven top mandoline slicers currently on the market. Our aim is to feature a range of available products to give you the best options to choose for use in your own home kitchen. In addition to a handguard, the Fullstar comes with a cut-resistant glove. It’s hard to get a good grip on the mandoline while you’re slicing as there’s no handle and you do have to exert a good deal of pressure, but you can get clean slices for most foods with the exception of ripe tomatoes.

This OXO Good Grips V-Blade Mandoline Slicer is a best friend for the high-volume cook, but it also handily churns out neat, versatile cuts for the occasional one. When opened, it's propped up at an angle which helps with leverage, and the holder keeps your fingers safe. Dakota Kim is a freelance writer and former restaurant owner who has tested many cookware items both for articles and for her restaurant. Since leaving restaurant life, she misses her commercial slicer and finds that her OXO Good Grips V-Blade Mandoline Slicer is a winner for slicing tomatoes, while also easily handling potatoes for her air fryer chips.

Most home cooks will enjoy having the Prepworks by Progressive Adjust-a-Slice Mandoline in their arsenal for the occasional time when they need to slice evenly, perhaps to put out a pretty array of tomato slices for a buffet or slice onions for French onion soup. The handheld Zyliss 4-in-1 Slicer Grater comes with four attachments that snap into the cutting surface; two have slicing blades and two have grating surfaces, making this a versatile gadget. Both slicing blades are very thin but cut cleanly. Using the thinner one, we sometimes got uneven or in the case of a ripe tomato, mangled results. For cleaning this particular mandoline, it is best to handwash all of the parts and dry them immediately.

One major safety issue with this model is that snapping the blades in and out of place requires your fingers to work dangerously close to the sharp edges. In addition, the blade clip leaves a small divot in the runway that can catch food as it slides down.It also allows tougher vegetables to pass through with less force – which greatly improves its safety! The mandoline is 12.6 inches long, 4.72 inches wide, and 1.57 inches tall. It weighs 0.8 pounds (12.8 ounces). We found the handguard difficult to push. Food did not slide smoothly down the runway and it often jammed up in the blade. Plus, the slicing blade has micro-serrations that leave tiny teeth marks on food slices. However, when I have a craving for homemade potato chips, want to indulge in an au gratin, or am making cucumber salad for a crowd, a mandoline is indispensable. The Tests We found that our slicing motion was not seamless because of a slight ridge in the mandoline—you’ll want to watch out for this to avoid accidents.
