About this deal

I don’t like horror films but I love scary books and this one is gloriously creepy in all the best ways. It features some genuinely frightening moments and had me on the edge of my seat. I raced through this book in one go as I was absolutely gripped by the fast pace and tense action. Anyway, this book was so much fun that it could’ve been written specifically for me as it had so many things I enjoy in it; Victorian artefacts, museums, a swoony love interest, a creepy villain & a desperate race to uncover the truth & try & survive!

The main character, Niamh, is coming to London for a 6 week long drama course she dreamed of for a long time. It’s one of the most prestigious programs in Great Britain. Soon after she first gets to London strange things and murder start to happen though and somehow Niamh always founds herself always in the middle of it. Stamping a supernatural creepy modern twist on the Point Horrors of old and giving a fresh modern voice to the genre, Last One To Die is a proper suspenseful scare fest that had me hiding under the covers on more than one occasion! TikTok sensation Cynthia Murphy's debut The Last One to Die has been hailed "Point Horror for a new generation", winning the Redhill Trust Book Award and Lancashire Book of the Year 2022. But that last part… I am sorry, so far the book was fantastic, awesome, WOW, but then you decided to add the little sister in the mix? While SHE FREAKING KNEW that things just weren’t going right? What is up with that? It just didn’t make sense, it was dumb. I am sorry. But I would have rather seen our trio fix things instead of this. Niamh has just moved to London to attend drama school. She is very excited and can not wait to start school. If magic is thrown into a story, it has to either be a defining role or weaved well into the world-building so that there is a sense of believability of its place in the mystery. Otherwise, the resolution just feels lazy and unfinished. PDF / EPUB File Name: The_Last_One_To_Die_-_Cynthia_Murphy.pdf, The_Last_One_To_Die_-_Cynthia_Murphy.epub I loved reading about the museum and would have loved to visit it. It sounds like the kind of museum I would enjoy a ton!

I am happy that the author told us how Niamh was pronounced. I am sorry, but I just don’t know any Irish people. And I live in Dutch-speaking country. XD I was already prepared to google it and see what was up, but I am happy I didn’t have to do that. Even though supernatural activity was hinted at in the book, it felt very... Scooby-Doo-esque, and quite clichéd, what with all the Ouija boards and strange prophetic dreams. I really have to ask the question of why the author felt it necessary to turn her story from the genre of mystery to the occult. Also, the rules and extents to Tommy's use of magic is just... never explained. Readers just have to accept that he's a wizard with immortality skills and he's been vibing across London for the last 150 years. No one's noticed this guy who just doesn't age and possibly living in the same manky house for who knows how long. Determined to make it through her Drama Course, Niamh is placed at the Victorian Museum to put her drama skills to the test, and there she meets Tommy: he’s kind, fun, attentive, and really hot! Nonetheless, there’s something eerie about the museum… The most important thing for me is that they enjoy it, reading should be fun! Some of my favourite books have been thrill rides that I devoured in one sitting and couldn’t tear myself away from and I hope I’ve created something similar to that. I’m a bit of a hard one to scare, as I constantly second guess the plot and who is going to die next, though I love a slow burn, anxiety inducing stream of events. My first memory of a horror film was my scariest…I was ten and alone in the living room, skipping through channels before bed. I stopped on something called ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street’ and a bloody body bag being dragged through a hallway…needless to say I screamed and hid my face in my hands. I couldn’t watch the rest until I was an adult. We spoke to some of your favourite authors and illustrators to find out what books they’d recommend for children starting school in September. Whether your child is nervous about making friends or struggling to build… The friendship with Jess, the family closeness and the love interest scenes were a wonderful addition to the suspense we get, like breathing a bit of fresh air as well. I loved it when scenes made me giggle or give me the butterflies. It was very light as well, which helped break the scary moments and make you believe everything was good, before another plot twist happened. But the ending was still good. We find out why x is doing all this. Why they have done it for so long. And yes, I don’t approve, but I cannot help to feel a bit of the heartstrings being tugged. I also loved that we get a bit after all the scary bits. See how Niamh is doing and what is next for her. I also loved that surprise bit about Geoff and who his partner was. Oh my! Couple goals indeed. XD
