We’ve updated our iconic trefoil and breathed new life into the way our sections look. Through fun new icons, as well as bold and lively colours, Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Rangers now each have their own distinct identity. Today, we feel more like a family. From Rainbows to Rangers, to young leaders and beyond, we’ve made it clear that Girlguiding is a place where all girls can explore, have fun, and belong. Take a look at what we’ve changed and why.

We help all girls know' shows that we offer girls a world of possibilities and that we’re helping to shape a future where all girls can be happy, safe, and fulfilled. She said: “I have many memories of the girls I’ve volunteered with over my years with Girlguiding, particularly those who have joined us very shy and have thrived during their time with us. Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Rangers have their own distinct identities so they appeal to girls at different ages as they grow. But we know that Girlguiding can help change this. Girls in Girlguiding are more confident than their peers: nearly 9 in 10 of them say they like being the way they are (compared with just 6 in 10 who have never been in Girlguiding). Girls Can Do Anything, written by me and illustrated by Ali Pye, is a celebration of all the things girls can do. It attempts to demonstrate to very young children that there is no job or hobby that cannot be enjoyed by those of us who were born in female bodies. One of the verses says:The 2012 Olympic Games marked a turning point for me in terms of disability awareness and the television campaign that marked the run up to the games was a major influence in the writing of Girls Can Do Anything. For the first time, the Paralympic games were given the airtime they deserved and the achievements of people with disabilities were publicly and noisily applauded across the nation. Here were people who were not made less by their disabilities, they were shown to be so much more. They were billed as superhumans who have accomplished phenomenal feats despite a whole host of obstacles including a wide range of disabilities. As we’re a family, all our sections have the Girlguiding masterbrand characteristics of curious and courageous, but each section also has its own unique personality: Girlguiding is a UK charity for girls and young women, who believe in helping all girls know they can do anything. They offer Rainbows for 4-7 year olds, Brownies for 7-10 year olds, Guides for 10-14 year olds and Rangers for 14-18 year olds. Karen’s time with Girlguiding began when she was a girl herself.

The bright and bold illustrations and the bouncy, rhythmical text work together to give the book a consistently positive and celebratory tone that communicates an empowering message about pursuing dreams. There are also several nods to real-life inspiring female heroes, both in the main text and also in the endpapers, because positive role models are so important in inspiring and pursuing ambitions Malala Yuousafzai is probably one of the most iconic young people of our time. Her courage and determination to make a difference provide an outstanding example of the potential that every single one of us holds within us, to make positive changes to our world.

She said: “I was a Brownie, Guide and Ranger in Dorset as a child. It was whilst I was a Ranger that I and another Ranger were asked to take on running the Guide unit that met before Rangers. I don’t think we really thought about not doing it. The Guide unit was without a leader and if we didn’t step up it would close. We were under 18 when we started running the unit, so the Ranger Leader also had to be present in the building, but we loved it and once I started as a leader I didn’t want to stop.

That’s why today, we’re excited to share our refreshed brand with the world. It’s a chance to focus on our core mission to be here for all girls – enabling them to discover the best in themselves and make a positive difference in their community. We’re showing the world that we’re still that pioneering, vibrant space where all girls can fulfil their potential and find their voice. We hope that it encourages even more girls to join us and experience the magic of guiding for themselves. Why do girls need Girlguiding? A diverse selection of girls is represented in the pictures, including wheelchair users, girls wearing head coverings and a girl with no hair at all. What they have in common is that they are all happily absorbed in whatever it is that they wish to do.

I don't usually review books that I read with my children, since we get library books out every three weeks and read 3 a night 😂However this book was awesome and came at just the right time, as my 4 year old daughter has just started to say things like "girls can't do that," or "that's for boys..." I also think Hart did a good job empowering girls without discrediting "traditional" feminine things like dresses or being a dancer or teacher. A multitude of interests are represented from gymnastics to skateboarding, being an astronaut or a violinist. The girls are dressed in different ways, such as tutus, skirts, pants, board shorts. The book really shows that there is no "right" way to be a girl as long as you are yourself. Karen told CONNECTED that one of the special things about Girlguiding is how the organisation helps so many young girls to blossom. I enjoyed Girlguiding so much as a child and felt accepted within the group. I wanted other girls to have that experience too. And now, nearly 45 years later, I’m still volunteering with Girlguiding – currently running a Rainbow group with 40 girls aged 4-7. Some girls, the book explains, love arts and crafts while others are skilled in speaking out for others in difficult times. Some girls find science exciting, others solve crimes and others still excel in sports. Some girls are gentle and others are rough, with a myriad of other possible personalities in between. Girls can become pilots, engineers, zookeepers, explorers or whatever else they want to be.

It featured a group of people that went through the same training that NASA astronauts and the person who won it was supposed to be invited to apply to be a real astronaut. Well, it was won by a woman called Suzie Imber, a professor of planetary science at Leicester University. What I really liked about the series was that each contestant excelled at something different. And that the people you thought might not stand a chance, turned out to be some of the strongest. The point is, you could not predict who would win. Just as you cannot predict which children will achieve their dreams, whatever they may be.
