About this deal

I was set to give this book a 3/5 until I reached the wellbeing section which essentially saved it for me. Read the book if you want to cackle at some of the best one-liners I've ever seen - my favourite has to be the horoscope ones but all are laugh out loud worthy) but a mammoth amount of information concisely written to not overwhelm the over-thinkers like myself. For fans of Jim Al-Khalili's The World According to Physics, this book is an accessible and engaging introduction to one of the Universe's most extraordinary phenomena. I really did not want to mark this book so low but I thought he was just a bit forceful with some of his ideas that I did not agree.

I did start putting tabs in the book for the useful sections but I quickly realised every single section was so informative and useful. I’d recommend applying to at least one uni that is quite ambitious, and at least two that are safe bets (as in, you know you’re likely to get the grades they’d expect of you). Welcome to the Universe in 3D provides a fascinating journey through the observable universe, from Earth to the big bang. If there are multiple subjects that you’re toying with then go to all the different subject presentations, and that should make it pretty clear to you which one excites you the most. But now, we sit at the precipice of a new way of observing the stars – through robots, instead of our own eyes – and that has consequences across the sciences.I bought this book because I really like Jack Edwards's content (he was one of the main reasons I applied to Durham hehe) but I was positively surprised by this book. Even though I appreciated the basic survival tips and the A level revision tips (those will be coming in useful way too soon! Kellie Gerardi has worked with NASA, tested technology that would be sent to the International Space Station, and helped develop programmes for future space exploration. Reading this just made me feel that little bit calmer about my future and what to expect from uni, although with the state of the world at the moment, who knows what the hell is going to happen in the next academic year?

Presenting a rich array of stereoscopic color images, which can be viewed in 3D using a special stereo viewer that folds easily out of the cover of the book, this book reveals your cosmic environment as you have never seen it before.I’ve been to countless talks at top universities about how to concoct the perfect personal statement and so, with this guide, I’ve got you covered. There’s no harm in not knowing just yet, and no shame in testing the water of a few different subjects at this initial stage.
